Research for Into the World took debut author Stephanie Parkyn from the coasts of Tasmania, through the islands of New Caledonia and Tonga and to Paris and Versailles tracing the extraordinary life of Marie-Louise Girardin, the woman who disguised herself as a man on a voyage to Australia and the South Pacific in the 1790s. Stephanie will talk about this journey to understand her characters, as well as her own journey of learning to write compelling fiction that appeals to publishers and the lessons she learnt along the way.
