About the event
This is a very special one-off event with Helen Garner and her good friend and writer from Newcastle, David Kelly, about the nuanced art of life writing.Â
David Owen Kelly is a memoirist, novelist, essayist, and short story writer. He was born in Queensland and adopted into a large mess of a family. It’s these stories regarding family (and how to survive them) that inform his memoir State of Origin. He lives in Newcastle because, for one thing, distance makes the heart grow fonder.
Helen Garner’s first book, Monkey Grip, appeared in 1977. She is well-known for her novels, short stories, journalism and essays, and for several influential works of non-fiction. Her most recent publications are the first two volumes of her diaries, Yellow Notebook and One Day I’ll Remember This. The third is due out later this year.
